I case you didn’t know this is the seventh splinter cell game since 2002. Splinter cell is Microsofts answer to Sony’s Metal Gear Solid. This means that stealth and spying play a large role in the game.

So lets have a quick look at what this title brings to the table. You now have the Mark and Execute feature. It allows you to distract a guard by shooting out a light and then making quick work of him. The other feature is that guards will now assume that you are where they last saw you, allowing you to flank them which is pretty fun for a couple of times. You can also “blend in” with crowds, which I though was a rip-off from Assassins Creed, but whatever.

Installing & Cracking

First you need to download and unpack and mount the game. It took me around 2 hours to download the entire game. I stood at around 1.8MB/s and the unpacking took almost 5 minutes.

Turn on Daemon Tools Lite.

Mount the file ending with .iso

Access the folder to where you mounted it and doubleclick the autostart file.

Install the game

Go back to the mount folder and access the “Skidrow folder” or extract the crack from the rar file we provided.

Copy all of the content from that folder into the Splinter Cell game folder (something like C:Program Files..)

Access the Splinter Cell Folder and run the crack, gu.exe, you copied into it (.srcsystemgu.exe).

Play!

Heroes of Newerth (HoN) is a really fun game inspired by the Warcraft III multiplayer map Defence of the Ancients (DotA). It is a really fun concept to play. Both personal and teamwork skills are put to the test and its easy to get absorbed in the game. As with all epic games, the aim is simple. Destroy the enemy base and you win.

There are two sides, good and evil. This is clearly reflected by the map and structures on both sides. On the evil side burned trees and lots of ash make up most of the scenery. The colors grey and red play prominent roles in giving it an evil look. The good side actually looks very warm and happy, with lushes trees and wooden structures. This clear difference between good and evil is a great addition to the atmosphere and character of the game. You never have to wonder which side you are on.

Then there are the heroes, lots of them. For beginning players this is really tricky. The vast amount of heroes from which a player can pick from present an important decision which is difficult to make. A team with only ranged units will find them selfs in dire trouble the moment a rogue stabs them in the back. The heroes them self look really awesome and I constantly ended up picking heroes just for the way the look.

Another fun element in the game are the items. Creeps (units) constantly spawn from the two bases and will clash somewhere on the map. When you kill these creeps, or an enemy hero, you gain gold. With this you can purchase various items. Some items combined form an greater item. This really opens the door to experimenting with different items and some are very fun to own.

From my personal experience from game I really enjoyed the atmosphere, but I was thrown in the deep when it came to picking a hero. Quite often I picked the wrong hero and ended up with a hero meant for advanced players on a balanced team. This aspect could be build upon.

Since there currently is an open-beta and the download is very small I highly recommend giving it a try. Worst case you will have lost an hour or two.

Remember Boondock Saints from 1999? Remember how awesome the movie was? Do you recall the strong in faith saints blasting gangsters and scum in a titiebar? If you don’t, go watch that movie first before seeing Boondock Saints II. Or watch Boondock Saints II and be amazed how much better the first movies is.Yes, thats right Boondock Saints II is crap, it is utterly unwatchable.

When i heard that a sequel was coming for the original Boondock saints I was quite happy. The first movie was a bit like Crank, lots of action, and still a decent, yet unbelievable, plot. The Boondock saints are two Irish guys who, through some vision, decide to kill gangsters. Most people call them saints because of this, and even the NYPD helps them out. In the end they execute some leader gangster in court. Basically a really good ending.

The second movie picks up after the court killing, and the saints are back in Ireland. They have beards, and they are doing stuff, i don’t known.. it just didn’t make any freaking sense whatsoever, but they were in Ireland. Then some priest gets killed in New York in an attempt to lure out the saints. The son of the mobster they killed wants revenge.. Then there is a whole scene were they shower and shave, all men love to see that kinda stuff right?

They take some oil tanker ship to New York and meet some stupid Mexican who finds out that they are the saints. Now this Mexican character acts so shitty and has such a shit role in the movie that the moment he enters the story everything turns to shit. In the first movie Rocco was “the funny man” and added some comedy. They replaced him with some Mexican douche who is about as funny as rape. His jokes suck and he just RUINS the whole movie. His “non obscure” car is a pimped out beetle with neon lights and its just trashy. He also gets his own guns which have the colors of the Mexican flag. Its just retarded really.

And that is pretty much it.. there are two action scenes, both which suck and are very unlike the original movie. One of the best things about the first movie was the CSI, Law&Order, Criminal investigation type scenes were the police tried to guess how the saints killed the gangsters. The guy who did this was really funny and played his role very well. He got replaced by some hot young blond wearing high heels. The two girls who watched this movie with me just started complaining about her every time she was on the screen..

In the end I felt cheated. The story is not that bad, really (i am having trouble convincing myself here)! The characters are stupid, the action scenes are lame, and everything else sucks. I am glad i didn’t pay for a theater ticket for this. The director should be complimented on his fuckup skills, all he had to do was make the saints go to a different city then New York and kick some ass there. I would have been very content to watch the saints go on a killing spree in Las Vegas, or even somewhere in Europe like Amsterdam or Paris. Managing to fuckup this simple formula can only be applauded because it has to take more effort to turn it to shit then it takes to make a decent movie.

I can’t start to explain how irritating it is to have HD movies not play on my tv because the audio codec is not supported. It is beyond me why devices such as my Xbox360, PS3, and my LG5000 tv don’t come with DTS support. Some of my HD material is downloaded and it wouldn’t be fair to blame the uploaders for not adding an AC3 audio track. There are two schools of thought to overcome this codec problem:

Transcoding

Recoding

Transcoding is changing the codec realtime, during playback. It is a really cool option especially if you want to stream the video files. I have not gotten it to work though. I tried the following applications without success, but you may have the glory of getting it to work. It is defiantly worth considering. Anyway you should try the following aplications:

TVersity

PS3 Media Server

TwonkyMedia Manager

MediaTomb

Since none of the applications really worked out too well I decided it was just better to convert the videos with codecs which were supported by my devices (mainly my LG5000 which doesn’t support DTS). One pretty universal codec seemed to be AC3. In Ubuntu there seem to be various ways to transcode your videos, you can use scripts, terminal applications like ffmpeg, or applications. I tried the oh so glorious scripts, and ffmpeg. Every time something went wrong or something was missing. It nearly broke me down to tears. My last resort after trying streaming applications, scripts, and terminals was to use applications.

mkvdts2ac3 script

ffmpeg terminal

Then finally I was saved by a single user who made this epic post:

You need an application called Avidemux! Once installed all you need to do to convert a mkv HD movie, with a DTS audio track, to a HD movie with a AC3 track are the following steps:

[in a terminal] “sudo apt-get install Avidemux”

Menu > Video > Avidemux

File > Open > YourVideo.mkv

On the left side, VideoMode – Copy

On the left side, AudioMode – AC3

On the left side, Format – MKV

File > Save > Select your location where you want the new video to be saved.

Wait a fair bit

????

Profit

Well its basically the same as setting up a 2003. Once again there are legal dedicated server files which you can download for Unreal Tournament 2004. I suggest you get the following file, but there are plenty of place to get it from, you can get any ut2004 dedicated server files as long as they are original.

Dedicated Server files download:
http://downloads.unrealadmin.org/UT2004/Server/?

Once you have downloaded the dedicatedserver3339-bonuspack.zip unpack it. Now go to the System folder. You will need to edit the UT2004.ini file. Replace the contents with the config files i provided for you. Chance the stuff in orange if you want. Save the UT2004.ini. Now you need to start the server. This is done through a .bat file. Create a new empty document or open notepad and paste the .bat content i provided. Save it as server.bat in the System folder of UT2004. Make sure to save as all documents, and not as a text document. Now run the bat file and your server should work.

Apart from downloading the files it only takes 2 minutes to do Once the server is running you can get web access by going to http://127.0.0.1:8080 and entering the username and pass which is inside the bat file. In the video i forgot my password was password

Setting up the server

Aright, this guide will give you a easy way to set up a Unreal Tournament 2003 dedicated server.

Where to start. I though UT2003 was going to be cake, turned out to be pretty dificult for me. Main reason being there was next to no tutorials for this. I seemed to have managed however. If you want to host a UT2003 server you do not have to worry about large downloads as the makers made a very nice server pack. You will need to get this “server pack”. Seeing as i am such a nice person here is a table with a couple of download locations. If you found a fast mirror but sure to report in!

If you believe the readme.txt file inside the archive it will make you believe that this is simple as hell. They might be right but wasnt for me. Ok so once you unpacked all you need to do is run the ucc.exe file inside the System folder. Thats a plain lie. You need to start the ucc.exe from a bat file or from command line. I hate windows command line. So iam going for a bat file.

Open notepad (start, all prgms, acces.., notepad if you didnt know this BAD USER BAD USER!!) In notepad paste the following line:

START C:\PROGRA~1\UT2003~1\System\UCC.exe server DM-Antalus.ut?Translocator=False?Game=xGame.xDeathMatch?AdminName=Heroin
?AdminPassword=PASSWORD?mutator=XGame.MutInstaGib?minplayers=8?goalscore=125?maxplayers=12?BotSkill=5?FF=0.5
?autonumbots=True?timelimit=20 ini=UT2003.ini

Ofcourse edit the line as needed, this is assuming the UT2003 folder is in C:\Program Files if its not edit the location above. Chance the admin and pasword. This server is running as an instagib server. If you want a plain server just remove mutator=XGame.MutInstaGib? it can also be done when the game is running so dont worry too much about it. Once you have the following in notepad save the file as UT2003.bat make sure that Save As Type = “All Files”. Now double click UT2003.bat and it should start your server!

Hoorah! You will also have a web administration available. You can open it (assuming you are behind the actual server) by going to http://127.0.0.1:80 There you can chance gamemode, type, level, mutators and such! If you want a bit more out of your server you will need to edit the UT2003.ini file. Which is located in your UT2003\systems folder. Pretty straight forward just change what you want save and reload the server

Download link: AtomicGamer Indirect HTTP (Wisconsin, USA)

You can edit these settingsd in the UT2003.ini file which can be found in the folder where you installed the server files.

This is the first comedy in a long while which has made me cry from laughter. The IT Crowd is about the IT department of a large corporation and everything is very stereotypical. The two nerdy employees get a new boss, Jen, who has NO CLUE about IT at all. This leads to a lot of funny situations. The best being when Roy and Maurice prank Jen into doing a presentation about the Internet at a board meeting.

Every episode stands by itself so you are not forced to watch the series in any particular order. The main problem is that you will keep watching the next episode and the series is only 3 seasons long and totals just 18 episodes. There might be plans to do a fourth series in 2010 but i have a feeling that it will suck seeing as it will be forced funny.

This show is much funnier then the wanne-be nerdy show called The Big Bang Theory. I would say that the IT crowd displays IT people as a bit social awkward but still with very normal and mostly manly desires, while everyone else is displayed as being mentally retarded. I uploaded one of my favorite clips from the series with the Boss of the corporation who is trying to seduce Jen.. i cried from laughter because the humor is just so brilliant.

Really enjoyable tower defense. The map is split up into four kingdoms, each kingdom has up to two players. When you play by yourself or with just one player per kingdom its advisable to create your maze at the end of the map, it is very difficult to manage two spawns at once. This map comes with four different game modes. I have only played cooperative with Demon (other admin). Cooperative probably means all kingdoms share 50 lives. Difficulty increases the amount of creeps per round. I found that when player with two players 1 should focus on mazing and the other on damage. The air waves are just plain difficult (as in most TDs). Whats really cool and abusable are the check points. All creeps will go from checkpoint to checkpoint with some smart mazing they voluntary walk back! One thing to watch out for is making your maze to long. In which case the creeps will take the water ways to reach the center. I have only played this game a couple of times and with me mazing and Demon damaging we did not have any problems with the maze length.

Ushare is a very wonderful application for sharing media across your network. Recently i purchased a xbox360 and it has the ability to stream movies from my PC to my flatscreen TV. However, the xbox360 does not make use of samba/windows file sharing SMB/CIFS protocol which mean you will need some sort of additional software to stream to it.

Due to the fact that I use Ubuntu linux i can not make use of Windows Media Player 11 acting as a UPNP server. There are various ways to setup this type of server but i found that nearly all of them sucked in some aspect, most often they were just to complex for what i was trying to do. I tried the following UPNP servers:

Ushare

TVersity

MediaTomb

X360MeditServe

GMediaServer

TVersity provides the best all around solution, including transcoding. Transcoding is more or less the holy grail xbox wise. However i did not get it to work so i just plain abandoned trying it. MediaTomb looks like a real profesional method for sharing media using UPNP but it was just way to complex for my taste.

Finally i found ushare which is a small and simple upnp server which does what i want, when i want! In Ubuntu it is very simple to install all you need to do is entering the following command

sudo apt-get install ushare

After which you you need to edit the configuration file. The main thing you would want to chance is the server name and the media-location. I have specified more then one location but I don’t see those files. Anyway enter the following command to edit the configuration file in Ubuntu (Gnome, for Kubuntu enter kedit instead of gedit)

sudo gedit /etc/ushare.conf

When you are done editing the configuration file to your harts content save it and prepare for awesomeness! When you want to stream to your XBOX360 you need to add a little parameter (option) when starting ushare. Enter the following command:

ushare -x

That is all you need to do to get it to work. Might sound like it is complex in comparison to a windows installer, but it requires just a little bit more input and though from the users which in return yield a better working program. If you don’t get the installer to work feel free to post here. Here is the installer guide i used.

This map is a bitch. It has been a pain in my ass since i first played it. The map rocks, yet it is hard. However it doesn’t seem impossible so you just keep on trying. It says inside the quest menu that it should be beatable by 2 players on easy mode. Well no luck so far. I think we have played this map with 5 people and still died. The first air boss is insane and then there are two bear waves, the second one just cant be fully killed. We did get pretty far at one point.. All the way to invisible waves. That was a while ago though.

All strategies so far have failed. I am pretty sure that you just need to find a good balance for this map to beat it. However the last wave is impossible it even says so when you try to edit the map. Basically version 2.0 sucks try a different preferably newer version.

You start with a single level one work which is quite decent. It has a diverse selection of towers and there is no need to rush to get a level two worker. The burrow and cannon towers are more or less the main stream towers. Watch out when mazing because the creeps in this map are notorious for ravaging your defenses. Here is a overview of the workers:

Worker level 1

Worker level 2

Worker level 3

Hints:

You can build two other workers if you purchase a worker shop (its the house tower available to level 1 worker, pion)

You can upgrade most towers, if you have two upgrades available you have the pick the specialty of the tower. For example a Cannon tower can become a splash tower or a damage tower which either turns the tower red or green.

Since air waves fly over you defense try building your anti air defense at turning points (all corners) the air units stop for a split second, it might not be much but still better then nothing.

Adittional hints:

buy slow towers

buy poison towers

buy air before level 6, this is means at least two level 2 lightning towers…

Alright, short and simple Tower Defense owns. Now that, that has been said I can get serious. Probably the only online mode I know off where team play is essential while still being extremely competitive. More or less all tower defense maps work with players having to defend a certain spot or area in the map. Enemies spawn in waves or as a constant stream and each one making it to the end zone will cost the player lives, time, or cash, which in all cases is bad. As the player beats the waves he is rewarded and as such can make more or better towers. This vicious cycle continues until the player loses or beats the final wave.

I am not the oldest player in the world, and no I didn’t play pong on my TV, I started playing games when having a cable Internet connection was the sweetest things in the world. Coincidentally this is also when I lost most of my remaining innocence.. I remember going to a friends house, Morgan, who had the Starcraft. I was instantly hooked. Problem was he used a mac so I couldn’t take the game with me. A couple of months later another friend Mathew finally gave me a burned copy with nocd-hack. Life was good.. using the badass AOL connection I started playing online. I don’t remember if I had a legit serial but I could get on battlenet. Thus I came into contact with the first Tower Defense maps. If anyone knows TD games before this time let me know!

Couple years later I started playing with Tower Defense with other friends, such as Terror and Demon. Starcraft tower defense maps are some of the purest TD games I know. Countless maps and versions have suffered defeat at our hands. Some maps like HGMA (Hydra-Ghost-Marine-Archon) were labeled by us as hack maps, or otherwise unfair. Seemingly unbeatable, after hours of gameplay the final wave was so strong it was just impossible to beat. Since everyone updated their SC:BW we cant seem to find a working HGMA defense map. If anyone has a map that works with the latest version let us known!

[screenshot HGMA]

Lo and behold the next generation of tower defense maps. Warcraft III was the next script-able game with Tower Defense maps. This is currently my favorite platform for playing TD maps. There are countless variations of maps all with unique twists. Some are hard, most impossible. You can find some of the Tower defense battle reports [here]. The fun thing about Warcraft III maps is that there are a vast amount of units and heroes which can make the game extra fun, games like Bayus TD make maximal use of this.

About the same time as Warcraft III, flash games became increasingly popular. Soon enough flash games started serving the somewhat niche market of Tower Defense. Resulting mostly in shit games, with notable exceptions of-course. Some of these flash games play better then triggered maps. Its a different experience with a lower learning curve. Some of the notable flash TD maps:

Desktop towerdefense

Bloons Tower Defense

Ultima Defense – Personal favorite, go UO!

Looking forward we can expect a new series of tower defense games to arise with the release of starcraft 2. SC2 will also come with a map editor and various scripting function so lets pray for some decent maps. Other then that the future of TowerDefense gaming looks pretty boring.. i have not found a “wow” effect flash game as of yet and there have been various attempts to have games centered around tower defense. Most notably GardenDefense. Originally a flash game it was transformed to an executable and sold for something like 35 dollahs which is quite a lot in my opinion.

Who would have thought that a Warhammer 40k style map would be fun? I sure didn’t! This map proved me wrong. The game is really fun and i love the tower system. Every race plays very differently. Demon swears by Choas/Space Marines. In this version the Tau fire warriors have a 20% stun chance which is amazing! However air waves are difficulty with them. The Elder towers can upgrade into a lot of diverse towers making them really fun to play with. Basically this map is very made very well and is nice and addictive.

Boss levels: forgot, make sure u kill them though, bosses give HUGE amounts of cash!

Known bugs:

In this map it is important to maze the creeps or you will not have enough time to kill them. The best method found so far is to make them zigzag from left to right. It must be noted that you can not build enough towers to maze your entire zone. Here are a couple of examples of defenses:

Hints:

Type -autowithdraw and -autodeposit before the end of the first round.. the bonus system is amazing!

I suggest giving Tau a try, the firewarriors have a 20% stun chance which is amazing. Build the top right tower which is cheap and deals out pain.

The grey player gets no spawn, meaning if you play with two players you should be able to make the game even easier by having someone play grey!

Grey should give the Necrons a try, the final tower is fatal! Especially considering necrons have the +25% bonus damage towers.

Blocking will make creeps angry so dont bother trying it.

For the first level 5 air wave you should have 1 anti-air unit, this differs per race:

This is one of the better TowerDefense maps for warcraft III. It is not super balanced, but it has some nice tweaks in it, and a lot of sweet customizations. Its really fun because of the hedge’s which allow you to make crazy hedges. Just make sure not to block creeps or they will stop moving or smash your defenses. Everything is also smaller then you are used to, great for my god-complex!

Facts:
Massacre TD Gold Download
Absolute minimal required players: 2
Maximum amount of players: 7
Difficulty rating: 5

Known bugs:
Fully blocking creeps from reaching their end zone will make them attack everything in range. Problem is that once they have destroyed everything the creeps will just idle.

Tutorial:
Map description:

Creep movement:
The big dot (red and yellow) are the starting points of the creeps, they follow the colored line towards the arrow at the end. As you can see, you do not have to build at the top 4 spawns! but building in the middle row and bottom is required. This means there is no way you can solo this map.

Setup:

Make sure to use the hedges, there is just no way you can beat this without a decent maze. I would recommend you build a wall starting from the top, this will create a funnel for creeps, at that point you can start mazing. It can be a bit tricky and some fast clicking is required. A basic setup which each player should be as such:

Hints:

You can “research” new towers by buying them at the upgrade book near your start spawn.

Make sure to get air and hero towers or those waves will leak!

If you play with three players you require a red + blue/yellow + teal/orange/green/purple. If you have a fourth player place him as a blue/yellow player. If you play with just two players one should be red and the other one blue/yellow.

wave 7 is an air wave. That means you should have at least one anti air unit build in the center of your maze because the flying units will not be slowed by the hedges. Anti air units kick ass. About two fully upgraded can handle the final waves of the air units (with 5 players)

Wave 10 is a hero wave. You absolutely need anti heroes towers. One tower at level two should handle it, two level one anti hero towers is a bit trickier but possible if you have a nice hedge maze and some slow towers.

Slow towers can basically STOP an entire wave. Once they reach level 6 or 7 they will stop units. If the creeps are stopped inside a maze they cant pass each other and you can simple totally waste them with a few towers. These towers make this game so extremely simple.

Make sure you hedge when you have some extra time. You can really increase the amount of time units are in range of towers by making them zigzag their way to their end zone.

This is a pretty cool map with a nice RPG element in it. It is not based on the usual “life system” meaning your towers can leak as much as you want. All creeps that pass the tower defense enter the town. Each player has a hero which they then have to use to kill the creeps. If all Hero’s have died then the game is over and the players have lost. If your hero dies he is revived after two turns. During these two turns you do not gain any resources. This basically means that when someone’s hero dies he is out of the game.

Facts:
Massacre TD Gold Download
Absolute minimal required players: 1
Maximum amount of players: 10
Difficulty rating: 7

Air levels: 3 6 9 13 16 19 etc
Boss levels: 10 20 30 31 37

Known bugs:

Sometimes creeps will destroy towers placed between the spawn lanes.

In some occasions creeps will walk back towards their spawn, might be because of loads of creeps overloading turn points.

Tutorial:
Map description:

The first few rounds are important because if you do not place your towers correctly you will get small leaks. Most of the times maxing out your cash on the cheapest tower will ensure a decent first wave. It is important to at least build one or two of the more expensive building because some waves are more resistant to certain towers. Upgrading one of your level one towers should be a priority, i would advice to upgrade a level one tower before constructing a level four tower. It is hard to define a basic setup and it depends per race here are some of our setups::

Creep movement:
The creeps spawn at the red dots and move toward the blue-red dot. When the creeps pass the gate they are spawned inside the town at roughly the blue points. The first boss spawns exactly at the blue-red dot. As you can see 1 player could, in theory, cover all the waves but we fond that with three players the game is still pretty difficult.

Hints – Towers

To play on something other then insane mode you need at least 6 players.

If you play with three players you require a red + teal + purple. If you have a fourth player place him as a blue. All the other player can just pick what they want.

Air waves are horrible, most of the time they will bypass your tower defense in huge numbers. The best solution we found was the undead anti air tower costing 210wood. (i mean the second tower). The humans also have a decent air tower but its a “level 2″ tower.

To unlock the “level 2″ towers (the towers on the second row of your builder) you need to build one of every top layer tower (“level 1 towers”) This will enable you to build 2 of the level 2 towers, you then have to upgrade these to unlock the other two level 2 towers.

Human archers are pretty good and cheap.. Upgrading one can be devastating for the enemy. Their splash units are also pretty good but we found the machine gunning dwarf to be a bit underpowered for the price.

If you manage to stop all creeps in a wave you get a nice gold bonus.

Hints – Hero’s

Picking the hero affects which type of builder you get. We found that Neo is the BEST hero. His area damage power blood moon(!update its not his blood moon its the skill on the left, the sword thing) skills are just lethal. It is very difficult to say which hero is the best tanker but some of the nagara (water) look like pretty slick tankers.

The healing water fall is your best friend! Make sure to have full HP before you start attacking.

There are a lot of items, first round you should spend every cent on extra HP no matter which hero you are. Demon (other admin) likes to buy 2x500xp.

The best weapon seems to be the DemonSlayer with its +60dmg. You should also get a Killmaim and the shield offering +30armor. Depending on your main attribute the +20agility staff can also be a contestant for a itemslot.

Strength = Health Points

Agility = Damage

Intelligence = more mana

One of my favorite maps in the half-life counterstrike series is de_assault. Counterstrike is a FPS shooter game were two teams try to eliminate each other, and sometimes perform additional objectives such as planting a bomb or guarding hostages. The terrorist team has access to weapons such as the ak-47 while the counter-terrorist team has the M4A1 carbine. All in all everything is well balanced and a fun game to play. There are various maps/scenarios which can be played, one of my favorite is de_assault.

De-assault describes what has to be done pretty well, the counter-terrorist team have to assault the well fortified terrorist team who are defending hostages. If the timer runs out the terrorist team wins, and seeing as the terrorist start in a well fortified warehouse they can just camp out the round. The counter-terrorist team has to out-snipe, out-skill, and out-snipe the terrorist to have a chance to save the hostages. Their main ct weapon is confusion and LOTS of flash-bangs. While the terrorists have to rely on patience and camping.

A difference should be noted between the counterstrike 1.6 and counterstrike:source. However the map layout and tactics are identical. There are various versions and mutations of the De_assault, including de_assault_mini. However the three main entrance points are:

Roof vents

Hangar

Alley doors

It is important to note that going Rambo style into one of these access points will result in permanent injuries, unless you have mad skills. I have seen rushes succeed but much more often end in a total wipe. There are various tactics which will at least get you kills, ultimately it has to do with skill and teamwork. A clan based match on de_assault would probably be very different from a normal counterstrike game.

Tactics: Counter-Terrorist

Time is your friend, in a public game with more then 8 players on each team let the fools die. Perhaps even pickup a rifle in case you don’t have any cash left. The first 10 seconds after spawning might yield a few retarded terrorists trying to rush by them-selfs, if they are not gunned down right away they can get some easy kills. If you are waiting out the first part of the round the least you can do is defend one of the access points. Least defended by the CT is most often the vents.

Tactics: Terrorists

Camp.. enough said!

Roof-Vent

You can access the roof using the stairs on the containers shown on the image with the dark-red arrow. You do face the chance of being popped in the face when you launch of the first stairs from the hangar door or in counterstrike1.6 through the wall. In counterstrike-source getting it through the wall happens a lot less often. The other way to access the roof is through the alley stairs, there is a very real chance of being shot there if you do not throw a flashbang. Just be careful when rushing these stairs, once the alley is occupied for more then a couple of seconds most terrorists will just camp inside.

The vent itself is tricky business. The first problem is that at the end of the vent there often is a terrorist just waiting for you to drop down so he can face-rape you with a ak47. Throwing a flashbang “just-in-case” will attract attention and everyone will just spray the vent. Your best bet is to just walk down, not crouching, about halfway down, so your feet are exposed. You wont see the terrorists but they will see your legs. If you take damage you known they are there if not you are good to move ahead.

In counterstrike 1.6 you will make a distinct noise when dropping down in the vent, lots of people know and wait for this sound to spray the fuck out of the vent. You can avoid making the noise by crouching ALL the way down the ladder. Halfway through the vent you there is a ladder to enter the vent to the control room. Once in a while a terrorist bastard will be camping there. Nothing much you can do about it other then shoot em to bits before he does it do you. At the end of the upper vent you can drop down into the control room. The final hatch will also make a distinct noise so be ready to perform multi-headshots the moment you drop. A flashbang can do some good. Once they know you are still in the vent it is difficult to get down. The end of the main vent will leave you very exposed but it is good to mix it up and a decent entry point when there are few players left.

The terrorist should try to have a vent-gaurd to ensure that no scumbag ct’s get through it alive. Randomly spraying an ammo clip into the vents is always good policy. The moment you hear the hatch or someone entering the vent you spray a clip into it. Even though you might not kill them they will think again about using it to enter the place. You can also “jump” past the vent to have a peek if you see anyone. If you run past the vent it usually is good policy to do this to minimize the chance of getting cummed on by a sniper.

Hangar

You are going to need some serious sniping power to hang around here. An AWP or noob-rod will do the trick. The counter-terrorists can use the over watch position on the bridge or crossway (whatever you want to call it) to rain down pain on any terrorist with a death wish. Similarly the terrorist can use the raised areas right next to the hangar entrance to ruin anyone who enter the hangar. When sniping into, or out of the hangar make sure to keep a lookout if your team has lost control of the other access points or you will be knifed in the back, you can take that to the bank. Usually you can start using the hangar when there are just a few people left, around the late-mid part of the round. If you heard a lot of AWP booms it might be better to use the vents where snipers have a disadvantage. Using smoke grenades might work to stop snipers but it attracts a lot of attention in general.

Alley Doors

Tricky business, terrorists can use this area to set a trap. As a terrorist you rush and just stand in the door opening and spray the first guy you see and puss out and do something else. CT’s can use a flashbangs to counter such a trap. In the alley there is a lot of spraying and running around like crazy. It is a very hectic place to be in. In cs:s there is a nice little letch you can jump on from the roof. From the bottom door you can snipe the warehouse walkway which runs at the end of the roof-vent. Great when you have an AWP or extremely skilled aiming. When entering flashbangs are required. It is not an option. The doors also make a distinct noise so in a small game it is hard to “sneak” inside.
