Alien Swarm is a game which uses the Source SDK. Alien Swarm is a release from a group of talented designers at Valve who were hired from the Mod community. Its the sequel to Alien Breed: Impact, which was build using the unreal engine. Its a top down squad-based shooter where you can level your character and gain new guns and aditional items.
Now what is Alien Swarm exactly? Steam gives us the following description, which actually fits it perfectly:

The game consists of 4 different classes and 8 different characters (2 characters per class). Each class has it’s own special weapons and items. You can choose one of the following:

Operating System: Windows® 7 / Vista / Vista64 / XP
Processor: Pentium 4 3.0GHz
Memory: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible video card with 128 MB, Shader model 2.0. ATI X800, NVidia 6600 or better
Hard Drive: At least 2.5 GB of free space
Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
How do i get Alien Swarm?
Alien Swarm is free for now, and is provided by Valve through the Steam platform. This means you are going to have to get yourself a Steam account. You can get an account for free at steam’s website. Even easier is to directly download the steam client:
When you downloaded the steam client register for a free account and follow the steps below.
- Make sure you have the minimal system requirements
- Run the Steam client and login
- Go to http://store.steampowered.com/app/630/
- optional: Go to the steam library and search for: “Alien Swarm”
- Download the game, it’s about 2GB so how long this takes depends on your internet connection speed
- When the download has finished your Steam client should install the game itself and all you have to do is sit back and wait
- When the game is installed your good to go and you can get your game on!
- Tweak your settings if neccesary, see here.
Custom maps
At the moment you can only play one campaign, i admit its a nice campaign but it gets boring over time so thats why you can make custom maps yourself! or you can download them. We have collected a couple for you and you can download them from OrangeSwarm. When new releases are made we will post them here aswell so make sure you post a comment containing a link to the file when you find new nice custom maps!

- Alien Swarm Custom map: Survival Deep Freeze v1.0 (4.2 MiB, 392 hits) - Registration required.
- Alien Swarm Custom map: Naks Complex v0.1 (80.9 KiB, 326 hits) - Registration required.
How do i install those custom maps?
- optional: Extract the files from the rar file (a .VPK file should pop out)
- Copy the .VPK file to: “C:Program FilesSteamsteamappscommonalien swarmswarmaddons”
- Start Alien Swarm and go to “Options” than “Add-ons” and activate the maps / mods

oh um i got a finished map but i dont know how to post it up or anything. Please help. i have a steam forum account but it is on moderated activation or something, but i want people to play it.
the map is a running game. like (its hard to explain lol) the objective is to run to the end of the map while fending off the aliens. There are 3 stages (each one you complete it gets harder). every finished round, you get to refresh your HP and AMMO. well thats about it……OH and theres a boss at the end “QUEEN”. so yeah
well please help me post this up somewere ty

eh… when i try to make Survival Deep Freeze v1.0 it just hangs of “creating game” for ever literally…. i waited like 10 min and nothing
console did not work nor the ESC, had to close rom task manager :/
did not test other maps, going to do it now

The office map is currently the latest version
when you download them it will tell you their outdated and they should provide a link to the latest version… we never said we would keep these files updated, we only provide them here as a early head on. besides that, we have 2 admin’s and 15000+ members which means its basically impossible for us to keep all articles updated.

This is the most inconsistent site I’ve ever seen. The title of the site is OrangeSwarm. The domain is SetupSwarm.com. This article is called Alien Swarm. It goes on to talk of ‘Alien Breed’. I suggest you learn to keep some consistency, and also fix your grammar and spelling.

Hello orange swarm, again. its not the upload exactly that i am having trouble doing, its the file converting. i need to make it like a vpk format or something, then it will be downloadable and postable. please notify me when there is in any way of solution
