Ok this is just plain and simple.. If you want to run a dedicated server and you have never done it before this is it. This is your chance to do it without any chance of screwing things up! Though counterstrike 1.6 is a tad old it is still one of the best FPS ever. This is great for blowing of steam or during a LAN party. Basically a must have. If you cant spare the 1GB space (if that) on your harddrive for this i urge you to leave this site. The instructions are very simple. Combine this with CounterStrike Portable and you will have a great LAN-Party going in minutes!

Download the files from here (cs 1.6 server files)

  1. Run OrangeSwarm-HLCS1.6-FULL.exe
  2. Run OrangeSwarm-HLCS1.6-PATCH.exe
  3. Double click the dedicated server icon (red one) on your desktop

Viola.. manage to screw that up and you could possible be brain dead. Configuring the server might require a bit of tweaking but to get a quick game going this should sort you out fine. You can also install bots which are decent.. Anyway here is the video tutorial in case you .. idk.. incase you like the trippy youtube songs or something.

A Herion original:

Alternatively you can install the official legal half life server which you can download here. Download the .exe file and run it. Once it is installed go to the folder in which you installed it and run hlds.exe Then select your game, half life, deathmatch classic, counterstrike1.6, day of defeat, Richochet, Team Fortress. If you want to run the server in insecure mode you will need to create a shortcut to the hlds.exe and add the following in the target field:

  • -nomaster -insecure
  • (Example: C:\HLServer\hlds.exe -nomaster -insecure)

That should let you run the game in insecure mode. Enjoy
