I had some really bizarre sound quality issues when converting the audio of an mkv from DTS to AC3. For example, when the sound was really loud (like someone shouting or an explosion) I could hear digital distortion, like it kind of sounded robotic, whereas before the audio sounded fine. Are there any settings I could change in Avidemux to avoid the distortion in AC3?

Thank you god! I've been looking everywhere for this and am more than ready for step 10. Profit. Installing now and getting ready warm up the dual-core. I don't think I've transcoded video on this computer since I had XP oh so long ago...

Playing mkv's from an external 1.5 TB on a Samsung UN46B6000, in case you were wondering. And 1080p DTS Avatar didn't have sound, which is what got me here!

I cant tell you for sure, but i think there are two AC3 settings one for downmix and one for orginal. I cant tell you for sure. I suggest you have a go with it. It is a good piece of software :)

Does this preserve surround sound in ac3, or downmix to stereo?
I'd like to convert the trueHD in BD rips to 5.1 DD/AC3 .
